Our German expedition has led us to Bonn—well more specifically to Sankt Augustin—but the Bonn/Cologne area of Germany. We have spent the week with some really awesome students from the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University (HBRS). They have been such wonderful hosts. I am so happy to be able to say that I will be ending our visit here having made a lot of new friends.

We have stayed busy doing lots of things. Not only have the students from HBRS planned our entire week, but they have guided us through the different cities we have visited as well. Without them I would literally be curled up under some bridge.

We have done things like take a Zip line tour over the Rhein River

Shop and tour Bonn and Cologne, which included visiting the love locks in Cologne

And, of course, we produced a whole television show—

“Germerica”—with our new friends.

One of my favorite parts of this trip was going to the cinema in Bonn. As a filmmaker myself I always jump at the chance to see a new film. This was a very different experience than I have had in the states because we had no idea what movie we were going to see. This was a special sneak peek screening in order to determine if the theatre should give that film a showing time.

There were about 100 other people at this mystery screening as well. Let me tell you, we have been getting the short end of the stick when it comes to movie theatre seats in the US. There seats were very luxurious—they kind of reminded me of a cushy throne. Before the film started the theatre managers came in and did a raffle to give away prizes to people in the audience. It was pretty epic—event if he mostly spoke in German and I had no idea who was winning. The movie we ended up seeing was called “Words and Pictures.” I had never heard of it before which actually made the whole experience that much better.

 The film was actually really good. I liked that it was something that I never would have seen in the United States. I have always found a trip to the movie theatre to be pretty magical, but this experience is one that will always stick out in my mind.

I am so glad that we have had the opportunity to bond with the student from HBRS. I have enjoyed every moment of my time here and as we get ready to head to Eisenach it is clear to me that I am really going to miss it here.
